Christmas Reading Nook Tutorial

There is nothing more beautiful than a well decorated Christmas tree, I usually decorate several throughout the house. This year I thought I’d bring some functional and FUN aspects to our annual display and my kids could not have been more excited! Made from a children’s teepee (links below) and cut off brances from an old Christmas tree, this reading nook is a magical way for the kids to read and even a great place to store Christmas presents as well!

Step 1:

Remove the fabric from the sticks of the teepee so you have a bare structure to work with.

TIP:

If the teepee is on carpet it should be pretty sturdy but I would definitely recommend taping down each pole to the floor if its on a wood floor.

Step 2:

Wrap the Green Yarn around the structure on all sides, looping it around each pole for stability. Leave just the bottom front open because this will be the entrance that your kids will crawl through.

Step 3:

Wrap the Green Plastic tablecloths around the structure on all sides. (I used 4 of them in total) Then secure them to the top and bottoms of the poles with Green zip ties.

Step 4:

Cut a slit up the bottom center of the Green Plastic tablecloth until you reach where the yarn is wrapped. Then pull the sides apart and ziptie to the sides creating an entrance for the kids.

Step 5:

  • Cut off branches from an old Christmas tree or if you don’t have one, you could get this Christmas tree which is super affordable and has a bunch of branches you could remove and use. It’s much cheaper than finding the single pine branches online or at the dollar store.

  • Wrap a zip tie around the branch and poke the zip tie through the plastic tablecloth, and around the yarn underneath. The branch will then be securely attached to the thick yarn.

  • For branches that are on top of the poles, zip tie them directly to the pole instead of the yarn.

Step 6:

It’s time for the fun part! Decorate the tree with these really easy vertical String Lights, add on these gorgeous twinkling Star Lights, and cut up pieces of Green Deco Mesh and wrap around the tree, making sure to place them in bare spots where you can see the tablecloth.

  • Now zip tie your *Shatterproof ornaments to the branches (making sure to cover the bare spots where you can see the tablecloth.)

  • In place of a star at the top of the tree, I used these light up Twig Lights and thought they fit right in and looked super magical!

  • Then put some cozy blankets and pillows inside the tree to make it extra comfy!

That’s it!

Now you’ve got a beautiful tree AND a cozy reading nook for the kiddos! I love how fun and functional this is and I promise your kids will love it. Check out the below Video Tutorial for a more visual explanation!
